Alkyl Ketene Dimer Wax is widely used as paper sizing agent that helps in enhancing the strength, quality, and water resistant. It is formulated from long-chain carboxylic chlorides with triethylamine as tertiary amine under anhydrous conditions. Appears as pale yellow waxy solid, this chemical initiates in less penetration of printing inks. Ketene compound of this chemical is produced by pyrolysis of stearoyl chloride. Alkyl Ketene Dimer Wax reacts with the hydroxyl group of cellulose through esterification to form beta-keto carboxylic acid.
Features:
It is also used for hydrophobation of cellulose fibers
Has a melting point of about 50 degree Celsius
Improves paper printing properties
